I am a huge fan of 5-hour ENERGY! True story: My husband and I visit Vegas about twice a year as a getaway and as we board the plane we always hit the airport Hudson News store to pick up 5-hour ENERGY. As we land, we crack that bottle open and that is how we start our trip! We usually fly out in the Evenings after work and so we need to fuel to keep the first night going!

How to 'Unjunk Your Junk Food' Book Review

If you have missed my past posts, I have written a few times about my Family's new Health Plan for the summer. I simply am cutting as many preservatives and chemicals from our food as possible. It was months of research and educating myself on how to read labels and now it seems so simple! I was given the opportunity to review the new book: Unjunk Your Junk Food by Andrea Donsky, Randy Boyer &Lisa Tsakos-Creators of NaturallySavvy.com. I read this book at the right time of my change. I had started with meal planning and buying fresh and free-range meats and Veggies. But, I was struggling a bit on the snack foods. There are many great Natural foods that cost a fortune and with a house of Boys. I would roam the aisle's thinking that there must certainly be items in these aisles that would still be considered 'OK'. 'Unjunk Your Junk Food' is my Bible for distinguishing bad from good and reminds me how to compare the labels!

I was so encouraged to read in this book about theories I had posted back in my Eating Plan Post which I use to sum up why I went from eating anything to eating natural. Here is the 3 key points I and this book touch on:

1. If your body does not recognize an ingredient (ie. preservatives/chemicals) it cannot digest it and therefor 

     stores it as fat!

2. Not eating fat leads to weight gain! How? What I gathered was there are the good fats and bad fats and if 

    you avoid fat all together (including good fats) then you drop your sugar level. When your sugar levels 

    drops, your body releases insulin. When your body releases insulin, your body thinks it is hungry. When 

    your body thinks it is hungry, you respond by eating more..it is a vicious cycle.

3. You don't have to stop eating convenience foods, just remember to read the label ingredients!

Know these Summer Stain Fighting Tips by Frigidaire

Frigidaire has teamed up with Tara Aronson, a laundry expert to help us know just how to treat all our stubborn stains. They have gone as far as to offer a pledge to Save the Children Campaign for $750,000. This comes as they promote the Affinity Collection..

With Summer in full force and our kids are active and playing hard, Frigidaire doesn't feel we should stress over those stubborn stains. Tara shares that the 5 most common stains are

1. Crayon
2. Iced Coffee
3. Grass
4. Juice
5. Chocolate (including Chocolate Ice Cream)

I was excited to see her advice on the the Chocolate and Juice stains! Fudgicles, to me, are the worst!
For the chocolate stains, Tara tells us to 

"Prewash the garment in warm water with a laundry detergent that contains enzymes using the Affinity’s Rinse & spin setting. Launder as usual, using the washing machine’s Normal setting. Dry as usual."

As for the stubborn Juice stains, Tara tells us to

"Soak for a minute or so in cold water. Remove excess water, and then apply a pretreater directly on the stained area. Wash with detergent as usual. Air dry. Do not place in the dryer until the blight is completely gone – otherwise the stain is likely to set."

A few more tips, I loved reading were:

Read fabric care labels before you wash. Your clothes will last longer if you know how to treat them

Check wet garments for remaining stains, and re-treat as needed before drying. Heat will set stains

Dry only full loads. Tumbling a handful of garments prolongs the drying time by reducing the tumbling

To keep snags and lint to a minimum, zip zippers, button buttons, empty pockets, and brush away lint before tossing duds in the hamper

Healthy Changes From Hellmann's Foods

Since my new Food plan I began with my family (see about it HERE), I have had the hardest time going from couponing to find the best savings to realizing the majority of what I was purchasing was preservatives & chemicals and the foods I now want are not always the ones on special. As I had discovered over and over again in my own research:

 If your body does not recognize an ingredient (ie. preservatives/chemicals) it cannot digest it and therefor 

     stores it as fat!

YummyEarth Gummy Bears & Lollipops Review and Giveaway

I have written several posts lately as I continue my quest to NOT DIET my family, but simply remove as many chemicals and preservatives from our diet as possible. The hardest part has been taking everything I am learning which is simply educating myself on how to decifer the food label and ingredient list and finding products for children. When I was offered to try YummyEarth Lollipops and Gummy Bears I was so excited! These Organic, Allergen-free, chemical/fructose and artifical-free candies were a hit with my 4 year old. The lollipops alone have 22 Yummy flavors from Pomegranate Pucker, Wet Face Watermelon (my sons favorite), Too Berry Blueberry and the list goes on. The packages are resealable and have kid-friendly designs. My son instantly knew I had a product for him! As you can see from the photo below, I had to go searching for Watermelon when he heard that flavor was in the bag of Lollipops!. I was getting ready for dinner and said, "go ahead and open a Gummy Bear package and tell me how you like them, but don't eat them all because dinner is ready"!. He came back in and said "Um..sorry Mommy, I accidently ate them all gone. It was an accident"! I guess he liked them enough to zone out and eat it all. They really are the perfect individual snack size pouches.

Review: Ecover Dishwasher Tablets Zero

Ecover Dishwasher Tablets Zero!

I was recently sent a box of Ecover Zero Dishwashing Tablets and I was impressed. I love clean..I figure if I am going to take my time to clean, I want what I am doing to result in effective and smell good cleaning. To me Clean is an odor. Call me odd, but when I try a new soap or laundry product I always sniff the end result. Not just because I love scents, but because I want that assurance the item is clean.

Ecover Zero Tablets worked wonderfully! My load came out so clean and there was absolutely ZERO residue on my glassware and dishes. And the dishes did SMELL Clean! With the pictures below, you can see what went into my load. Normally I wash the dishes entirely before putting into my dishwasher, but to really test this product, I put dirty dishes in. The glass bowl was leftover chili that was in my fridge for a while. The Green  cup had leftover Smoothie residue from earlier in the day and bowl had dried cereal residue and utensils were used for my sons PB & Jelly sandwich and smoothie earlier in the day. The result...clean smelling, sparkling clean (and there really was a sparkle) and zero residue dishes!
